This is Namma for
Christ with the three hundred sixth inspirational message dated Thursday,
August 6th, 2026. The title of this message is “I Come to the Garden Alone – Matt.
6:33 - Remembering Nana”.
The first six words of this message’s
title are also the words of the title
of the below anointed song/video, “I Come to the Garden Alone” as performed by the late great
Gospel artist Mahalia Jackson.
The below passage of scripture (that
accompanies this message) is from the thirty third verse of Matthew 6:
Matthew 6:33
New King James Version - (NKJV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
The title of this message also includes
the word – “Nana” –
which is the name we in my family –
all called my late grandmother. My grandmother passed away July 19th,
2019 – this message is written to honor the
recent seventh anniversary of her transitioning to her heavenly home.
“Remembering Nana”
Matthew 6:33
Recently, at my church’s Sunday worship service, I heard a familiar song – “I Come to
the Garden Alone” (also known as –
“In the Garden”). I hadn’t heard “this
song” in a while – and just hearing it again – it really touched me and brought
back precious memories.
This song, “I Come to the Garden Alone”, used to be one of my
late grandmother’s (my mother’s mother)
favorite songs. I fondly remember sitting next to her in church and upon “her” hearing this song - she would
sing along or sometimes quietly cry to herself. I (and my family) miss my
grandmother so much (she was our family’s spiritual matriarch)
- she lived to be 99 years old.
When I was 5 years old, my late grandmother used to take me to attend church school with her – this is the church that I still attend today. My late grandmother had been an active member (for over 60 years) at her church. She had served in a variety of roles – over the many years of her membership - she served as: a Deaconess, an evangelist, a steward, a missionary, the superintendent of the Church School and as the Church School’s Adult Class teacher. I and my family – (my brother, my two daughters and their children) are still members of this same church where my grandmother faithfully served. “This church” is known as our family church.
“Nana” – was always known to say (to remind us to keep our priorities straight): “Keep
God First” – (as Matthew 6:33 states – see
verse above). Nana was also well known
by family members, friends and members of our church family – to offer an
encouraging word or to say a prayer whenever
needed.
Our
“Nana” not only made a significant difference in her “church”, but she also
made a significant difference in ALL the lives of our family members! She was
never ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she would always testify of
“the goodness of God” in her life! Whenever we needed someone to lift up a
special prayer – it was “Nana” – who everyone would go to. She had read the
Bible (and knew The Word so much) and
taught it so much over the years - as
a church school teacher – that she could even “quote many Bible verses” – from memory! Nana touched so many lives (in our family, her
friends and our church family) - we still
fondly share precious memories of what she meant to each of us.
May
my dear “Nana” continue to rest in Heavenly peace.
