This is Namma for Christ
with the one hundred seventy-fifth inspirational message dated Sunday, January
10th, 2021. The title of this message is “Please Don’t Pass Me By – Mark
10:51-52.
The scripture is taken
from the fifty-first and the fifty-second verses of the tenth book of Mark:
Mark 10:51-52
New King James Version
51 So
Jesus answered and said to him, “What
do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to
Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”
52 Then
Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on
the road.
The first five words of
the title are also the name of the below inspirational song/video, “Please
Don’t Pass Me By” (with lyrics) as performed by Gospel artist Fred Hammond
& Radical For Christ.
This song, “Please Don’t
Pass Me By” tells the story of a blind man named Bartimaeus who is sitting and
begging on a Jericho road – when Jesus passes by one day. As Jesus passes by
with His disciples and a large crowd of people following Him, blind Bartimaeus
overhears that “Jesus” is passing by – so he cries out to Him. Please read the below
scripture text that describes what happened in Mark 10:46-52 -
Mark 10:46-52
New King James Version
(NKJV)
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
46 Now they came to Jericho. As He
went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus,
the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he
began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48 Then many warned him to be
quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 So Jesus stood still and
commanded him to be called.
Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer.
Rise, He is calling you.”
50 And throwing aside his garment,
he rose and came to Jesus.
51 So Jesus answered and said to
him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my
sight.”
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he
received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
During
Jesus’ time on earth, He always allowed His travels to be “interrupted” by the
needs of those seeking His help. Blind Bartimaeus
was sitting and begging on a Jericho road – when Jesus passed by. Blind
Bartimaeus “CALLED OUT” to Jesus! He literally was saying, “JESUS – I’ve got to
have YOU! I NEED YOU IN MY LIFE! I NEED TO HAVE WHAT ONLY “YOU” CAN GIVE ME! I
NEED TO BE HEALED! I NEED TO “SEE”! I KNOW THAT YOU, JESUS, HAVE HEALED OTHERS!
PLEASE HEAL ME AND GIVE ME SIGHT!
Many times, God
will “respond to” and use people who others tend to overlook…
In the
lyrics of the chorus of the below song, “Please Don’t Pass Me By” (blind
Bartimaeus) might have said –
“JESUS –
I need you…
Please
don’t pass me by….
I need
you in my life…
I’m not
ashamed to tell you – I NEED YOU IN MY LIFE!”
Look at the response
of the crowd – as found in Mark 10:48 -
48 Then many warned him to be
quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
The crowd wanted Bartimaeus to be quiet…the crowd wanted him to
“stay in his place”…to not call out to Jesus…but blind Bartimaeus CRIED OUT
EVEN MORE!
What does this tell us? As believers in Jesus Christ – we are to
NOT follow the crowd or listen to what they say!
We are to focus on Jesus!
We are to PRAY or CRY OUT TO OUR LORD – for “whatever” we stand in need of…
God hears the cries of the needy and the brokenhearted – see the below
verses:
Psalm 34:17-18
New King James Version
(NKJV)
17 The
righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
And delivers them out of all
their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to
those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a
contrite spirit.
Please remember: Jesus will meet us at our point of need!
May we each call out to Jesus, PRAY and ask the Lord – to give us
what we can’t give ourselves!
Jesus loves us and He wants us to come to Him!
Psalm 34:6 reminds us of this –
6 This poor man cried, and
the Lord heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
Please read the below verses describing how Jesus responded to
blind Bartimaeus’ CRY FOR HELP –
Mark 10:51-52
51 So Jesus answered and said to
him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my
sight.”
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he
received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
Lastly, after Bartimaeus was healed – he
followed Jesus!
Let us
LOOK to JESUS and follow Him!
